Surveys are one of the most common — and most challenging — tools in institutional research. In this workshop, participants will work through realistic consultation scenarios to sharpen their ability to advise colleagues, draft effective questions, and adapt to new survey contexts. We’ll examine evolving practices such as micro-surveys and inclusive demographic survey items, and reflect on how to apply them effectively on our campuses. Come ready to engage, collaborate, and leave with practical consultative skills, peer connections, and resources to guide your next project.

Participants in this session:will:
  • apply consultative strategies to evaluate survey goals, advise stakeholders, and draft effective survey questions across institutional contexts.
  • collaborate with peers to navigate common consultation challenges and adapt survey plans in response to shifting audiences and institutional needs.
  • identify and curate practical resources that support continuous improvement in survey design.
Intended Audience: Individuals with knowledge of survey bias (leading, double-barreled, etc)

Format:  This is an Interactive Workshop: Participants will be able to interact with presenter and one another; these are not recorded.

Cost:  $40 - Member; $100 Non-Member

Presenter: Kristen Lindsay, University of Findlay
