7/10/2023	Streamlining report generation in R This workshop will explore how to generate reports in R. We will focus on how to create multiple reports for different subgroups that use the same dataset (e.g., departments or colleges), but the techniques covered can be applied to similar scenarios. Participants will learn how to use R’s programming features to write efficient and reusable code that can generate multiple reports with minimal effort. This type of automation can help streamline processes, saving time and resources, and reduce the risk of errors. We will cover topics including the basics of R Markdown, loop structures, and report generation using R Markdown. By the end of the session, participants will better understand how to automate report production, and will leave with some example code they can apply to their own work. 7/13/2023	Improve IR Efficiency Using R: Data Report, Data Freeze, Web Scraping, and Visualization This workshop introduces multiple ways to use R in the context of institutional research. R codes can improve IR professionals' work efficiency by automating, reproducing, and documenting IR tasks. The workshop will walk through examples of using R for annual data reporting, reviews, and surveys. The presenter will also share reusable R codes for data freezing, web scraping, and survey visualization. Workshop participants will understand how Markdown language like R helps the process of accurate and reliable data reporting. Also, participants will learn strategies to improve work efficiency and gain the freedom for more in-depth data interpretations and decision support. more info...
7/19/2023	You have NSC Data. Now What? Part I Please join us on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 as Laura Walker, University System of Maryland, outlines the various approaches to analyzing data from the National Student Clearinghouse. We will look at data from a sample dataset to see a student's first enrollment after applying to an institution. We'll then look at another approach to establish a ranking of institutions post-application. The result would be manipulating the data to get it both wide, for a Tableau Sankey dashboard, and long, for a Sankeymatic image. Analysis will be conducted in RStudio, but it is certainly not necessary to have a working knowledge of R. A heavily commented R Markdown file will be provided so participants can follow along and know what to do in their preferred analysis software. While it does not matter what data analysis tool you use, it is highly recommended that participants understand data wrangling techniques such as sorting data frames, if/then statements, and combining data frames. 7/25/2023	Communicating Institutional Data - Creating Engaging and Informative Presentations and Reports This workshop will offer techniques and tips to effectively develop visual presentations and written reports that effectively share institutional data snapshots, trends, and conclusions. Using IPEDS data, participants will review and create examples of concise and clear materials that are commonly requested by academic and administrative leaders, but that can also inform the work of faculty and operational staff. more info...
