5/2/2023	Communication Best Practices: Managing Expectations The biggest communication misses are a direct result of NOT managing expectations. First our own, and then second, those with whom we are interacting, whether it is a colleague, boss, stakeholder, spouse, or child. Not managing expectations can result in disappointment and frustration, as well as lost opportunities and resources. If you have ever completed an assignment only to find you did not complete the assignment as expected, you have experienced the ramification of not managing expectations well. If you have delegated tasks on a team project, only to find something went terribly wrong, you're in the right workshop! 5/8/2023	Identify Peer Institution and Aspirant Institution: Using IPEDS and Student Clearinghouse Data This workshop is designed to introduce participants to an innovative method of identifying peer, aspirant, and competitor institutions. Throughout the session, we'll explore how to answer key research questions, such as "Who are our peers?", "Who are our aspirant institutions?", and "Who are our competitors?" using institutional data from various sources. Our focus will be on a proposed method that redefines what constitutes a peer and aspirant institution based on specific criteria. Participants will learn how to analyze institutional data from the Council of Independent Colleges, U.S. News & World Report college rankings, National Student Clearinghouse data, and IPEDS data of 250 variables. We'll discuss the criteria for identifying peer institutions, including institutional size, academic preparation, cost, selectivity, and demographics, among others. Additionally, we'll examine the criteria for identifying aspirant institutions, such as higher retention rates, graduation rates, and post-graduation earning potential. While there are no pre-workshop requirements, attendees are encouraged to come with a basic understanding of institutional data. 5/23/2023	IR and IT: I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship (Guiding Light) This is a story of an IT guy and IR guy coming together to build a data system that helped democratize data and analysis so that UVM could have a data informed culture.
