Are you tired of using the same old bar or pie charts? Would you like to enhance your data visualizations? This workshop will help you bring new life to your data visualizations by demonstrating how to display survey results, categorical data, progress towards goals, and changes over time by creating charts in Excel beyond the ones available to select. Participants will learn how to “hack” Excel’s available charts to make a diverging bar, overlapping bars, back to back, dumbbell dots, and slope graph charts. These charts are capable of enhancing the visual understanding of the data and highlighting important points. As the charts are created, related best practices for creating data visualizations will be discussed. An Excel file with dummy data will be available to participants to create the charts during the session, if desired. Some experience creating charts in Excel is helpful, but not required as each step in the process will be demonstrated.

Software Requirements: Microsoft Excel, preferably 2019

Presenter: Christy King, PA State GEAR UP, Shippensburg University/PA State System of Higher Education
