Prescriptive Analytics: Linking Actions to Student Success
7/21/2021
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Event Description
The workshop demonstrates how to utilize data analytics to personalize data informed actions to support
individual student success and retention. Institutional Research (IR) has a long history of working with
Descriptive Analytics (phase 1) to monitor what has happened with regard to student success (e.g.
retention and graduation rates).

In more recent years, IR has also utilized Predictive Analytics (phase
2) to anticipate what is going to happen with regard to student retention of individual students. This
session focuses on Prescriptive Analytics (phase 3), which leverages the insights of descriptive and
predictive analytics to change predicted outcomes.

Participants in this workshop will learn to:
1) Leverage all three phases of data analytics (descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive) to build an
intrusive advising model.
2) Identify sources of data that can support prescriptions
3) Build and test prescriptive actions
