The Role of Data In Creating a Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Environment
8/13/2020
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Event Description

There is a simplicity with numbers that appeals to us all, because of the build-in rules on how to count things. Yet, a more thorough examination of these guidelines reveals the tension between reports for accountability purposes and analytics that captures the experiences of our diverse students, faculty, and staff.  What term should we use when grouping the non-White races/ethnicity? Should we even group them? What is the difference between sex and gender? Are we capturing the experiences of our Middle Eastern students when they are asked to select White with regards to race?  There is no doubt that reporting is important for accountability purpose, but how do we use data to ensure we also do not create barriers in creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
