SQL for Beginners
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

SQL: The Building Blocks Series
The four-part Building Blocks Series is designed to teach SQL from the ground up. The Beginners workshop assumes no prior coding or SQL experience - by the end of the series, attendees will be able to write complex queries and approach data requests with confidence. This series is specifically created for Institutional Research professionals, and will use relevant examples and exercises from the world of higher education - no more translating vague sales data into IR problems!

This workshop is aimed at those with little to no SQL experience, and will cover foundational concepts including the SELECT statement, filtering with WHERE, AND/OR, and LIKE, and manipulating results with aggregation and CASE.

Materials will be presented in a fun, relevant, and easy-to-follow format. You will receive communications regarding technology/software, materials, and a confirmed agenda in the weeks prior to the workshop.

Software Requirements:
MySQL Workbench - it's free, works on PCs and Macs, and can be downloaded here
