Brief Description
The Office of Institutional Research and Planning is a service oriented, collaborative office that provides data and analyses that help the college reach its goals as outlined in the institution's strategic plan: "Achieve 100% student success;" "Lead by providing quality, innovative, and inclusive academic and workforce programs;" "Optimize communication to enhance collaboration;" "Foster a diverse, inclusive and engaged community;" and "Strengthen QCC's organizational sustainability." The office responds to ad hoc research requests and coordinates reporting efforts of IT staff and data stewards to fulfill accreditation, grant, federal and state reporting requirements. It supplies access to data through business intelligence and data visualization tools; co-leads strategic planning efforts; manages surveys; prepares and presents analyses to the Cabinet and Executive Teams, among many other responsibilities.

​The Research Analyst is part of a team that assists the Dean with the collection and management of institutional data. He/she will utilize and document key databases necessary to the IR function. Research projects include studies related retention, student performance, academic assessment, enrollment management, and strategic planning. He/She will assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting relative to institutional effectiveness, respond to ad hoc research requests, and contribute to the further development and maintenance of publically accessible electronic data tables and reports. Among other analytical duties, the Research Analyst will support the research and reporting requirements for the Success Scholars Initiative, a state supported initiative committed to equity and inclusion through effective wrap-around support. He/she will work with the director to develop, document, and maintain the work of the office, including Cognos reports, Tableau dashboards, PowerBI dashboards, and the QCC SharePoint site.  Other responsibilities include: preparing standard federal and state reports (IPEDS, HEIRS, etc.), fulfilling data requirements for grant proposals, developing and analyzing surveys, conducting focus groups, creating and maintaining cognos reports for extracting intuitional data, and managing other projects and studies undertaken by the IR office.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comprehend and document databases integral to institutional research, including but not limited to institutional effectiveness, student performance and retention, enrollment management, academic assessment, grants, and accreditation.
  • Insure timely and consistent reporting of institutional data and performance indicators for the purpose of IPEDS, HEIRS, grants, and other reporting.
  • Manage and respond to ad-hoc research requests.
  • Utilize Cognos to write reports that extract data from multiple data sources. 
  • Participate in the planning for the next generation of institutional relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Develop and implement surveys. Analyze survey data.
  • Collaborate with data stewards to ensure data integrity
  • Gather internal and external benchmarks related to institutional effectiveness.
  • Maintain and analyze national student clearinghouse data.
  • Develop and deploy reports, datasets, and dashboards via Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos, Excel, or other appropriate tools.
  • Conduct research and analyses relevant to the assessment of student learning.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to assess their research needs and develop and deliver comprehendible reports that provide insight to their work.
  • Participate in committee work as assigned.
  • Maintain documentation of all work and tasks completed.
  • Fulfill data requirements for grant proposals.
  • Prepare and submit federal and state reports including grant reporting.
  • Support faculty engaged in the College's Academic Program Review process through collaborative development of student outcomes and appropriate measurement methods.
