Brief Description
Reporting to the Admission Information Systems Manager, this position measures admission and enrollment data and links said data to the vision of the Office of Admission, Office of Student Financial Services, and the mission of Bates College. Identifies data needs and develop reporting tools, business practices, and comprehensive strategies to fully utilize the functionality of office systems throughout each phase of the admission cycle. Provides statistical analysis and summaries of data, and presents findings to internal and external constituents and strategic partners. Manages metrics preparation, analyzes historic trends, and creates dashboard reporting for the office to support strategic decision making and provide requested information. Assists with the design and implementation of new processes that support data needs.

Works closely with the Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, all members of Office of Admission, Student Financial Services, Trustees, Advancement, Bates Communications Office, Student Affairs, Athletics, Office of Intercultural Education, Office of the Registrar, Faculty Committee on Admission and Financial Aid, Office of Institutional Research, and other select college leaders to provide reports and data analysis.

Job Duties:

  • Work with Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, Director of Admission, and Director of Student Financial Services to identify reporting and data needs relative to division-wide goals and strategic priorities.
  • Primary developer of data queries, reports, and analysis for the Office of Admission as a judicious user of Slate, Banner, and Argos.
  • Work with Information Systems Manager and Director of Operations and other Admission and Student Financial Services staff to help improve efficiency and enhance productivity of data-related processes.
  • Provide leadership to Admission colleagues to maximize transparency of data and results, to assist the staff in working smarter and more efficiently in all data-reporting projects. Provide documentation and training to enable admission staff to build queries, generate reports, and execute procedures to support their use of Slate. Ensure data standards are widely known and used within Admission operations.
  • Produce reports, analysis, and recommendations during student recruitment, selection, and enrollment.
  • Build internal reports and dashboards in Slate to collect and analyze data related to communication campaigns, territory management, visit programs, recruitment travel, virtual programming, events, alumni in admission activities, prospective student engagement through the admission funnel, selection, admission, yield, and transfer enrollment.
  • Provide key enrollment data and reports relative to institutional goals for campus constituents such as the President, Senior Staff, Trustees, Communications Office, Institutional Research, and Faculty Committee on Admission and Financial Aid.
  • Generate, maintain, and analyze reports specifically designed for external constituents (i.e. NESCAC, Expendables, annual Admission Profile, etc.)
  • Work closely with and submit data files for external vendors such as Human Capital Research Corporation and MARKETView.
  • Coordinate with Office of Institutional Research on responses for questionnaires, news articles, Common Data Set, IPEDS, and other mandated reports and surveys for internal use and external agencies.
  • Collect and analyze first-year student data, trends, etc. as requested by campus constituents in order to support enrollment policies and strategies.
  • Apply research methods in the collection and analysis of admission data.
  • Conduct independent research and data analysis.
  • Serve as a member of the Office of Admission Senior Leadership Team.
  • Serve as a primary Office of Admission liaison to Institutional Research.
  • Collaborate with campus partners on data warehousing endeavors and projects.
  • Participate in professional associations and listservs to utilize community support from other institutions and to share best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by Information Systems Manager, Director of Admission, Director of Student Financial Services, and/or Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid. 

Minimum Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in math, statistical analysis, social science, operations research, or related field.


• A minimum of one year of experience in an Admission setting, preferable in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least two years of experience with data management/reporting, data analysis/presentation, relational databases, data visualization tools, data query tools, and basic statistical analysis.
• Familiarity with the academic environment and higher education, preferably the liberal arts.
• Knowledge of admission cycles, terminology, and best practices preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with Slate and Argos preferred

Skills and Knowledge

• Proficiency in basic SQL, MS Office, and basic knowledge of HTML; experience with SPSS, Microsoft Access, Qualtrics, and intermediate-advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Demonstrated ability and knowledge of research designs, statistical methods, and survey methodologies
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and prioritize work to ensure deadlines are met
• High degree of accuracy and excellent attention to detail
• Strong problem solving and research skills to identify and resolve data related issues
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high volume work environment
• Ability to communicate technical solutions to non-technical colleagues; ability to compile, analyze, and synthesize data into a clear, precise format and presentation; excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Experience with Slate (or similar higher education admission and recruiting CRM system) and a student information system.
• Strong interpersonal skills (a sense of humor is a plus) with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude.
• Genuine curiosity about the world, particularly higher education and issues of diversity and access.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
• Personal commitment to excellence and the mission of a top-tier small liberal arts college.
• Desired: demonstrated experience with predictive analytics/modeling to support student enrollment.
• Desired: demonstrated experience using data visualization/dashboard tools.
