Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the College’s external reporting, internal reporting, and analysis in support of institutional assessment, planning, and decision-making.

  • Support institutional, student learning, and administrative assessment activities in collaboration with the Provost, faculty coordinators, department chairs, and administrative coordinators.

  • Support Muhlenberg’s accreditation activities, strategic planning, and dashboard maintenance.

  • Advise the President and Senior Staff on data needs for institutional planning and assessment purposes.

  • Conduct special studies as needed for the President and senior staff.

  • Oversee and coordinate data reporting to outside agencies and accreditors (IPEDS, MSCHE, Department of Education, U.S. News & World Report, College Board, Princeton Review, Common Data Set, etc.). ensuring timely and accurate data submission. Serves as the institution’s IPEDS key holder.

  • Advise College leadership on and assure accreditation compliance.

  • Administer and manage the College’s online course evaluation system (including: administrations, trainings, best practices, technical support, interpreting results, etc.).

  • Provide data, benchmark information, and reports for internal inquiries from offices across campus (e.g., from the President, faculty, committees, etc.).

  • Work with the Admissions team to conduct enrollment research and retention studies to better inform decision makers of market forces, student choice patterns, and demographics.

  • Edit the Muhlenberg College Source Book, an annual publication describing the history, organization, programs, students, faculty, staff, finances, facilities, and alumni of the College.

  • Monitor all enrollment reporting for the National Student Clearinghouse.

  • Coordinate the administration of institutional surveys and studies (e.g., CIRP Freshman Survey, NSSE, HEDS Senior Survey) and develop reports on findings to aid decision-making and planning.

  • Provide consultation to academic and administrative units on outcomes development and assessment, research methodology, data management, and data analysis and interpretation for planning and assessment activities.

  • Oversee the Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment website.

  • Stay informed about state, federal, and accrediting body regulatory policies and changes.

  • Serve as the institutional representative and participate in professional organizations (e.g., Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium - HEDS, Associations of Institutional Research – AIR) and development opportunities to update and further skills and knowledge as relevant to this position.

  • Partner with faculty and staff to organize workshops on assessment practices.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.


  • Master’s degree in a research-related field, such as statistics, social science, or mathematics science, behavioral science, information science, or an equivalent combination of academic degree achievement and professional knowledge.

  • Minimum five years’ experience in higher education data gathering, quantitative analysis, and /or data reporting.

  • Advanced computer expertise, to include relational databases SPSS, R, and data visualization.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current higher education issues, assessment and accreditation.

  • Commitment to student success, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well the ability to communicate analysis and research to broad audiences.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Successful completion of standard background checks, including but not limited to education verification, national criminal background checks, and child abuse clearance required.
