Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Director of Institutional Research, Planning & Assessment.  The position is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President.

The new Director will be joining Allegheny College at a time of enormous opportunity and potential impact, as the campus engages in a transformative and data-informed strategic effort to improve student graduation and retention rates, increase research productivity and enhance relationships with the local community.  The selected candidate will play a significant role in achieving the College’s strategic goals, rethinking and transforming the way the institution conceives, interprets, communicates and delivers data and subsequent decisions.

Job Summary 

Manages the development, generation and assessment of data for use in campus-wide decision-making and resource allocation. Responsible for the ongoing collection, analysis, presentation and dissemination of data and qualitative information documenting and moving forward institutional effectiveness student success. Manages the support team in the production of institutional dashboards showcasing key performance indicators used by a range of stakeholders to track the college’s effectiveness and success and to inform strategic planning and decision making. Consults with and assists staff College-wide in the development and analysis of survey instruments, questionnaires and other studies related to unfolding institutional initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Experience 

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years experience in institutional research and assessment or a related field. A documented and progressively responsible management experience. A strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research design and analysis, predictive modeling, analytics, statistics and information knowledge. Knowledge of best practices in higher education planning, assessment, institutional research, decision-making support, data analysis and information communication. Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse community, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is respected and valued, and working effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff and external constituencies. Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with budgeting, resource management and planning. Proficiency in one or more statistical packages (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R)

Preferred Qualifications 

Doctoral degree preferred /or five years combined progressive / increasing responsibility in institutional research and assessment or a related field. Demonstrated success in working with external constituencies to listen, build relationships and develop support and funding. Knowledge of regional accreditation requirements in support of institutional compliance and related to planning and assessment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college executive teams. Demonstrated experience with staff development and improvement. Experience with reporting and data visualization tools, such as Tableau.
