Brief Description
The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE) at Stevens is inviting applications for the position of Business Intelligence and Reporting Analyst to join a team of talented colleagues. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the analyst will play an important role in managing institutional data and technologies, providing reports and statistical analyses in support of institutional research, planning, and assessment activities. He/she will serve as the IRE data expert, technical adviser, programmer, and hardware/software specialist with a key focus on data mining, analytics, and visualization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the IRE data warehouse by working with the Associate Director and collaborating with IT services.
  • Maintain a considerable knowledge base of various types of institutional data stored in Workday (Stevens’ student information system), and IRE data repositories, such as student admissions, enrollment, degree data, course data, and faculty data.
  • Extract, validate data, and write reports from Workday, warehouse environments, web-based software applications, and other external platforms.
  • Develop data queries involving complex relational schemata and/or requiring sophisticated logic using SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide, Alteryx, and/or other tools.
  • Document all aspects of work in maintaining data tables in the data warehouse, with special attention to data compiling and retrieval methods, workflows, and schedules.
  • Keep abreast of advances in information technology and security.
  • Assist the Senior IR Analyst with data collection and dashboard design for all aspects of external data reporting (IPEDS, state reports, college guidebooks, consortium exchange, etc.), and internal reports for academic and administrative units, such as the weekly enrollment census report, the annual benchmarking report and other institutional analyses.
  • Work closely with other IRE staff to support business intelligence solutions, and serve as a technical advisor to ensure the office remains technologically current in the rapidly changing technology world.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, data sciences, information systems, statistics, or similar discipline.
  • At least one year of professional experience working with enterprise data systems, analytics, and/or research in a higher education setting or in a role involving data analysis.
  • Demonstrated business intelligence and analytics experience working with relational databases, design, and maintenance of data warehouse.
  • Strong ETL data integration skills and SQL skills for querying and manipulating data.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization tools.
  • Proficiency with Excel and with a statistical package or programming language, such as SPSS, SAS, Python.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented and accepting of the confidential nature of the assignments
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-project, fast-paced office environment and able to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people in an academic setting
 

Grade:  Grade 6

Location: This position will be working remotely until the start of the Fall 2021 semester, at which point hybrid location schedule options may become available.
