The Sr Data Analytics Specialist leads data analysis and research projects to solve problems and provide actionable insights for university decision-making in the areas including but are not limited to academic program evaluation and planning, research analytics, competitive intelligence, performance evaluation, financial analysis, institutional performance benchmarking, student enrollment and success, or process improvement. The Sr Data Analytics Specialist functions as a member of the strategic and competitive intelligence team to plan the design of large, complex and key data analytics programs in close collaboration with data analytics professionals across the Ohio State University academic campuses and affiliated entities; manages the initiation, planning, execution and closing phases of projects involving the integration of multiple data sources, utilization of multiple systems, and collaborative efforts across business unit functions. The Sr Data Analytics Specialist will serve as a key technical contributor and lead data scientist for complex and advanced data analytics initiatives identified and championed by university leadership.
The Sr Data Analytics Specialist is an enterprise-wide support role and the work involves the application of statistics and computer science fundamentals along with modern data visualization concepts to identify, collect, integrate data assets from other disparate data sources, analyze and present as needed to address projects for organizational needs and priorities. The position has responsibility for managing analytics projects of various scopes and complexity, usually relating to data analysis and research problems and may also participate in or be responsible for the administrative management of staff. The ideal candidate should have project management experience with demonstrated ability to work effectively with collaborators across different areas. This position makes decisions according to established policies and procedures, although incumbent frequently exercises discretion in determining appropriate methodologies for analysis of data.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, MIS, Statistics, Business, Economics) or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 5 years of experience working on medium to large data analytics projects, or advanced statistical analysis projects are required. This should include database query design and implementation, integrating data resources from multiple sources, and modeling data to support data visualization and presentation tools such as Tableau/PowerBI. Undergraduate courses or training in database management or MIS required. Experience and knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, R or Python required. Experience using relevant business intelligence and statistical analysis software packages required. Graduate education in other related fields is strongly preferred.
