The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Institutional Research, Analysis & Decision Support (IRADS) seeks an Associate Director. 
 
Institutional Research, Analysis & Decision Support (IRADS) provides ongoing support for UMBC’s campus planning and decision-making. Through the integration and analysis of campus data we facilitate decision-making in the areas of budget, resource allocation, enrollment management/projections, campus performance, and the setting of campus goals and objectives.

IRADS functions as the primary source for official campus statistics, complying with Federal, State and University System of Maryland reporting requirements. As needed, we conduct surveys (students, alumni, faculty/staff, employers) and special research studies to assist in policy decision-making. We also respond to requests for information about UMBC from higher education associations, accreditation teams, admissions guidebook publishers, other colleges and universities, students, etc.

The Associate Director for Institutional Research will work primarily in the institutional research arm of IRADS, assisting the AVP of IRADS in all institutional research functions, as well as taking a lead role in the analytical work of the office in support of the campus strategic plan.  Specific duties include:
  • Assists with the institutional research function of the office, including surveys and analysis in support of enrollment management, faculty workload, Academic Program Review and new program development and proposals, instructional costs and academic productivity, peer benchmarking, student characteristics, alumni affairs, student­ learning outcomes and curricular evaluation, and campus accreditation;
  • Manages IR staff, ensuring high levels of customer service and data integrity;
  • Oversees and supervises the analytical arm of IRADS, providing support to campus constituents and decision-makers, especially with regard to items outlined in the strategic plan;
  • Defines measures and reports data to assess university-wide goals and objectives in support of strategic planning (in conjunction with Decision Support and Academic Analytics);
  • Participates in a variety of campus-wide planning and administrative committees;
  • Represents campus at system office IR meetings and other external committees as appropriate;
  • Represents IRADS on grant-funded research projects as required;
  • Supports dissemination/publication of research on IR-related activities and best practices to internal and external audiences;
  • Performs other duties as assigned
This position requires a Master's degree and at least five years experience in institutional research or higher education administration.   
Candidates must have: knowledge of higher education issues at campus, State, and federal levels; demonstrated knowledge and success in research design and statistical analysis and modeling; demonstrated success working with university data systems, reporting, and data and information management; excellent understanding of data sources, relational databases, and demonstrated expertise in extracting data from complex systems.  Ph.D. in social science or higher education administration, experience at a public, doctoral-granting research institution and some supervisory experience preferred.
