Brief Description
The Assistant/Associate Director is a senior member of the Institutional Effectiveness team responsible for mandatory and voluntary reporting, accreditation compliance, survey implementation and analysis, OIE data/documentation control, and evidence-based decision-making to help achieve the University’s mission. The Assistant/Associate Director monitors data reporting requirements of accreditation agencies and collects and maintains data on an ongoing basis to meet those requirements; and manages the timely filing of reports and surveys to external stakeholders. The Assistant/Associate Director also participates on/in committees, task forces, meetings, and other groups as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Institutional Research
  • Support the educational and administrative activities of various University constituents by consulting on their institutional research needs and contributing to the development and execution of all phases of institutional research projects, including, but not limited to: identifying research questions, designing studies, analyzing data, interpreting findings to help make sense of the information, and reporting findings through narrative reports, tables, and data visualizations
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Provost, play a key role in developing comprehensive documentation to detail the reporting standards, protocols, and processes of the Department
  • Develop repeatable analytical processes for recurring reporting tasks, using tools such as R, Python,  or statistical processing software (e.g. SPSS, Stata, SAS)
  • Respond to internal and external data requests of varying complexity
  • Gather, analyze, and summarize data about various aspects of the institution
  • Manage the University’s regular compliance reporting (e.g., IPEDS, NYSED) including serving as the IPEDS Keyholder
  • Institutional accreditation (MSCHE) – support the preparation of and manage submission of the Annual Institutional Update (AIU); support the data needs for an 8-year Self-Study
  • Administer, provide lists and/or data sets, and ensure timely submission to guidebooks (e.g. Peterson’s, College Board, US News)
  • Coordinate the implementation of campus-wide external (e.g. Ruffalo Noel-Levitz products and NSSE) and internal surveys
 
Process management/improvement:
  • Contribute to the development of project management systems to manage department workflow to track and prioritize data requests, ensure timely fulfillment of requests and, maintain open communication with the Department’s staff and requestors
  • Contribute to auditing current processes to identify opportunities for process improvements to increase the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of regular and ad hoc reporting
  • Work collaboratively across schools and administrative offices to implement process improvements
  • Perform periodic review of written procedures and updates as necessary to maintain a current, complete reference manual, including the maintenance of an institutional research calendar to ensure that cyclical project timelines are met
 
Communications
  • Produce data reports in a variety of formats, including narrative, tables, and graphic formats 
  • Support the Department’s data communication activities, including disseminating institutional data throughout the University and helping stakeholders interpret and use data
  • Contribute to the development of data dashboards
Data Governance
  • Support the University’s Data Governance efforts by proactively identifying data issues and contribute to devising solutions to improve data quality
  • Develop and implement data validation procedures to identify data discrepancies that need to be resolved
  • Perform additional, related duties as assigned
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven ability in utilizing statistical analysis software, large data sets, and relational databases (e.g., SPSS, SAS, SQL).
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Excel pivot tables, filters, and formulas.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work prospectively to manage complex projects and multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and communicate data analysis in order to provide insights to decision-makers
  • Experience with survey design methodology and human subjects protection protocols
  • Ability to think about the details of data and how they integrate into systems, to devise efficiency improvements
  • Ability to identify the needs of collaborators to generate and interpret data that appropriately addresses their concerns
  • Ability to synthesize appropriate data from multiple sources to draw logical conclusions
  • Ability to effectively analyze situations, problem solve, and use sound judgment to develop suitable solutions
  • Ability to work as a cooperative team member across all levels of the University, while also acting independently
  • Ability to communicate about data to a variety of audiences and in a variety of formats
Ability to compose accurate and clearly written reports and documents
Previous experience in higher education, particularly related to institutional research, assessment, effectiveness required
Commitment to data quality, accuracy, and integrity while professionally handling confidential data
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (Brightspace or other) and video conference platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams)
  • Experience with assessment management system and/or project management system a plus.
 
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree or higher preferred in program evaluation, education, sociology, psychology, political science, higher education, or field that includes statistical research
 
Experience:
  • Four years of related experience preferred
  • Experience with preparing IPEDS reporting requirements
  • Familiarity with current higher education issues
  • Experience with survey design, implementation and analysis
  • Experience validating, analyzing and reporting student information system data
 
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
 
Salary:
The annual salary for this position is $85,000-$90,000 per year, depending on experience.
Hours Expectation:
Full-time, 35 hours per week
Modality: Fully remote or hybrid.
