Under general supervision, the analyst will support the functions of Institutional Research and Analysis (IRA) at SUNY Cortland. IRA provides university-wide data support, reporting, and analysis for decision-making, institutional planning, and evaluation of academic, student support, and administrative programs in ways that support the mission of SUNY Cortland. This on-campus position reports to the Director of Institutional Research and Analysis.

In support of general data reporting, the Analyst will be expected to extract, collect, analyze and summarize institutional data using a variety of data sources and tools. This includes internal reporting (eg, annual department data reports) and external reporting to SUNY, state and federal agencies, in addition to accreditation and non-governmental organizations. The analyst will also assist in summarizing the results of surveys and research studies, responding to ad-hoc data requests, and managing data files used by IRA as primary data sources.
The successful candidate will have good analytical skills and attention to detail, in addition to effective written and spoken communication.
Major Responsibilities:
Specific Projects or Tasks of the Analyst include, but are not limited to:- Leading collection and sharing of data for the annual Common Data Set and affiliated requests to external stakeholders (eg, US News, College Board, Princeton Review);
- Completing annually mandated SUNY reports (eg, Basic Student Charges);
- Completing or assisting in completion of NY State Education (NYSED) report series;
- Completing or assisting in completion of Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) report series; and
- Maintaining, updating, and enhancing the IRA office web page.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree; related experience working in higher education setting, preferably institutional research or assessment; proficiency with administrative student information systems, preferably BANNER; experience combining and recoding large data files; experience with reporting tools; experience conducting statistical analyses; experience with survey design platforms (e.g., SelectSurvey, SurveyMonkey); experience updating and maintaining web pages; and basic knowledge of qualitative data analysis techniques.
