Brief Description
William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time position of Data Analyst within the Department of Institutional Effectiveness. This position can be fully onsite, hybrid, or fully remote, based on institutional need and an agreement with the successful candidate.

Reporting to the AVP of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) and working closely with the Associate Director, the Data Analyst serves as a key member of the IE team that works to support and promote data-informed decisions. The Data Analyst works independently and collaboratively on external reporting mandates and internal analytical projects.

Job Details

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Fulfills mandated state and national data reporting requirements, including IPEDS.
  • Responds to internal data requests from campus stakeholders.
  • Supports administration of internal and external surveys.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the data and information needs of the University community.
  • Works collaboratively with data stewards to understand functional business processes and standards, and to identify areas for improvement.
  • Advances IE’s efforts in data visualization and the provision of actionable information to the University community.
  • Works with various constituents on Data Governance and other University initiatives, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  
  • At least four years of experience in a data-related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with SAS, SQL or similar data extraction and reporting tools. 
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience with mandated state and federal reporting, including IPEDS.
  • Experience with tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience with data governance a plus.
  • Experience with Banner, Workday, or similar enterprise data systems a plus.
