This workshop will provide participants with an introduction to statistics and hypothesis testing, with particular focus on how they may be applied to situations in institutional research. Main workshop goals include summarizing and displaying data using statistics, an overview of key probability concepts, sampling distribution, hypothesis testing of single means, hypothesis testing in difference of two means, and limitations of one-and two-sample hypothesis tests. These concepts will be presented using examples specifically tailored to institutional research. This workshop is suitable for those new to statistics, as well as those with rusty experience.
