Brief Description
The Fashion Institute of Technology is seeking a Research Analyst to work in the Office of Institutional Research, reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. The primary function of the Institutional Research Office is to support institutional decision-making and external reporting with accurate, useful, appropriate analysis. The office is responsible for coordinating submissions to various agencies including federal IPEDS reporting, state reporting (SUNY and NYSED), college guides, and accrediting bodies along with fulfilling research requests from internal areas including Enrollment Management, Budget and Finance, Human Resources and Academic Affairs. The office manages a data warehouse in a SAS environment. In addition, the office is heavily involved in coordinating surveys and analyzing and communicating results.

Job Details

The Research Analyst will contribute to all of these projects. In addition to maintaining several large reporting projects in SAS that cover a wide range of topics, the analyst will design new projects, in areas such as enrollment forecasting, faculty workload, student retention, and the building of automatic data reports using SAS and SQL. The candidate will handle data requests that require learning new databases, extracting and cleaning data, thinking strategically about measuring and presenting data visually, documenting processes, and ensuring accuracy.  

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree, preferably in a quantitative or research-based discipline and at least three years of relevant experience required.
A broad range of academic fields may prepare the candidate for the position, but strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills are essential.
Relevant coursework will be considered in lieu of direct experience.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably in higher education, is preferred. Experience outside of higher education will be considered, but the successful candidate will have a specific interest in student success and in higher education operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong writing and communication skills are required. Successful candidates must have a solid understanding of statistics, research methods, survey methodology, and data analysis. The office has adopted SAS as its primary software for reporting and analysis. Experience with SAS or similar software packages (SPSS, Stata, etc.) is preferred. Other valuable types of experience include SQL, experience with enterprise-wide data systems, data warehousing and business intelligence applications, and data visualization tools.  

The position requires the ability to work collaboratively and individually and to manage multiple projects under firm deadlines. Attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality is critical.  The candidate must be curious and proactive, and have the interest to learn new things.

The position is on campus, primarily in an office environment.
