Job Details

The Data Analyst will play a central role in the communication of high-quality data analytics related to survey research for stakeholders across the university through the development and maintenance of interactive visualizations and conducting analytics and statistical analysis. In this capacity, the candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Director of Survey Research and Assessment and Senior Survey Research Analyst to provide support for data-informed decision-making. The Data Analyst will have the following responsibilities:

  • Statistical analysis, data visualization and dashboard development for displaying survey results.
  • Python code development and maintenance to gather information and organize it for analysis.
  • Manage large datasets.
  • Learn about emerging tools and new analytics approaches.

 

The Data Analyst will also perform external comparative policy research.  In this capacity, the Data Analyst will assist the Office of the Provost in answering comparative policy and benchmarking questions.  Responsibilities related to the policy and external intelligence piece of the position are:

  • Creation and maintenance of a yearly externally focused fact book with Northeastern and comparison group data.
  • Diversity benchmarking.
  • Responding to ad hoc requests for comparisons of Northeastern policies across comparison group schools.
  • Composing surveys to peer schools to collect data, and then summarizing and interpreting the results.

The Data Analyst will coordinate with the Director of Institutional Research and Institutional Research analysts on some elements of the comparative policy research responsibilities, so the ability to multi-task and collaborate is key.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of expertise in the development of informative, insightful visualizations using Tableau.
  • 2+ years of experience in developing robust reusable scripts for data cleaning/processing/web scraping with Python .
  • Experience cleaning and managing complex, multi-source data sets, ideally using Tableau Prep.
  • Experience working with databases and writing SQL. Snowflake experience is preferred.
  • Ability to conduct research to gather and analyze data and provide accurate, timely analysis and describing the results of analysis. Experience using SPSS or R for analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of text analysis tools would be welcomed.
  • Knowledge of publicly available higher education data, such as IPEDS, CGS, and other sources is preferred.
  • Interest in educational research or experience with data in a higher education setting would be an asset. An interest in diversity, equity and inclusion would also be an asset.
  • Master’s degree, or a combination of bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.
