POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness or designee, the Institutional Research Specialist, as part of the Office of Planning, Effectiveness, Research and Assessment supports data analysis, data dissemination and assessment of non-academic units at the School of Labor and Urban Studies. The Associate Director is responsible for a range of research and assessment duties that require knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and dissemination. This team member functions in collaboration with deans, department administrators, faculty, and staff. The Associate Director is responsible for the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of the data analysis and visualizations provided to all external stakeholders. The Associate Director will be dedicated to equity-minded assessment practices that contribute to the School’s mission and commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage student and institutional data for external reports (IPEDS, NSCH, AIU), and periodic institution wide reporting (retention, enrollment trends)

  • Create, implement and disseminate data and assessment strategies for administrative and educational support units. Optimize compliance and institutional data visualization web-pages

  • Collaborate on institutional effectiveness and planning for growth and sustainability with director, and Associate Dean. Strategize survey calendar and content with faculty and staff.

  • Responds to ad hoc requests for information and analysis, which may entail conducting complex extractions, analyses and reporting of information contained within survey and institutional databases

  • Create and maintain enrollment dashboards and other institutional data tools. Support and assist faculty and staff in using data and planning tools. Conduct periodic audits of administrative platforms such as EAB, Hobsons etc. Monitor the integrity of the assessment portal.

  • Collaborate with IT on academic computing needs as well as institutional data optimization and web portals for data usage

  • Select, adapt, and apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative research design, statistical tools and techniques in all areas of study, including institutional effectiveness, process improvement, planning curriculum, student and staff characteristics along with managing enrollment and data integrity

  • Collect, track, analyze, and disseminate information to promote student success, retention, persistence, and completion

Note: Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting. Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings.

  • Knowledge of large-scale data systems, definitions, and procedures; experience with relational databases.

  • Working knowledge of administrative, educational, and student support unit assessment and supports for the creation of learning and departmental outcomes.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Tableau, experience with SPSS or R, understanding of SQL and PeopleSoft

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages College institutional research programs and studies related to the College's mission.

  • Develops relevant, timely and accurate institutional information to administrators, the college community, the external community, and external agencies.

  • Defines and implements research studies, designing and conducting data analyses and analyzing and interpreting results.

  • Researches, develops and recommends policy analyses relevant to anticipated institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs.

  • Participates in college-wide strategic planning, institutional effectiveness and outcomes assessment tasks.

  • Respond to data, table and report requests from college constituencies.

  • Manage surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments administered by the Office.

  • Manages a library of institutional planning and research documents.

  • May consult with faculty and students in the design of databases for research projects

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Annual salary between $79,188 - $93,491, commensurate with credentials, education and experience.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted.
