Brief Description
The Institutional Research Analyst is responsible for the creation, management, and use of primary institutional research datasets involving data from multiple sources to meet the informational needs of both internal and external constituencies. This requires three interrelated sets of skills: data extraction, data manipulation/ management, and the ability to translate raw data into meaningful summaries or visualizations to meet a range of institutional needs. The IR Analyst will work closely with IITS and data stewards to develop improved data structures and streamlined processes for obtaining, analyzing, and reporting data, particularly those supporting assessment of key institutional priorities. Reporting to the Director of IR, the IR Analyst will often work independently to meet the reporting needs for the College. This is a one year position with potential for extension. Job Details

IR Data Management and Reporting 60%

Extract and compile data to meet the reporting needs of the Institutional Research Office. Oversee the organization, maintenance, documentation, and updates of the IR library of data files; Work with IITS and institutional data stewards to ensure that appropriate institutional data are accurately captured as of official freeze dates. Analyze data and prepare compelling visualizations to support the use of data in decision-making.

  • Coordinate and implement procedures for the regular compilation, summarizing, and reporting of data to campus constituencies. Prepare the Common Data Set, the College Factbook, and Institutional Dashboards; Respond to designated external requests for institutional information.  Update the IR website with new information, as appropriate. Assure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all institutional research products.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for longitudinal institutional data collections, including annual consortium/vendor surveys and internal surveys (using Qualtrics).

Assessment/Institutional Effectiveness Support (40%):

  • Provide technical expertise in a support/consultative capacity to cross-divisional offices that are collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data for assessment purposes, particularly those connected to key institutional priorities of student success.
  • Provide tactical support for Institutional Effectiveness at the division level through collaboration on Dashboard development and KPI reporting.
  • Provide tactical support (including data collection, management, and visualization) in the assessment and evaluation of the newly created THRIVE program (Truth, Healing, Resiliency, Inclusion, and Equity) through collaboration with the THRIVE Program Coordinator and other campus leaders to administer an effective program assessment strategy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other

  • Experience in working with data, including database or data file management, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Ability to transform, improve, and integrate data based on business requirements.
  • Ability to use visualization tools and software to communicate information through dashboards and reports, for Institutional Research and clients.
  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to develop, interpret, summarize and present complex data.
  • Experience with and understanding of assessment concepts (e.g., direct and indirect assessment measures) and processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously.  Initiative in planning tasks in order to be prepared for busy periods.
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, analytical tools, statistical packages, and administrative software.
  • Exceptional skills with Excel and Tableau required.
  • Experience with survey design software (Qualtrics preferred) and statistical software (SPSS preferred).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with administrators, faculty and other constituents in order to solve problems and convey information.
  • Diligent concern for accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and security procedures in accordance with office and College guidelines.
  • Effectively represent both the office and the College in professional organizations, meetings, or events, as appropriate.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by the Director of Institutional Research.
  • Provide documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption as a condition of employment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in data analysis/research, social sciences, education, business, or a related field.  Graduate degree preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of similar or related experience. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
