Brief Description
The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (IR&A) plays a critical role in facilitating decision-making at all levels of the University by collecting and analyzing data and conducting research related to enrollment management, strategic planning, resource allocation, assessment, and program review/accreditation in support of the University’s mission and strategic goals; advocating for accurate, reliable, and consistent data management and usage across all three campuses of the University; and fulfilling institutional internal and external reporting requirements.
The IR&A Office collects, analyzes, interprets, and disseminates a wide range of data and research findings related to the University’s enrollment, academic, and financial divisions. IR&A coordinates with other campus offices that collect and analyze institutional data (for example, Registrar, Admissions, Student Affairs, Office of Sponsored Research, Campus Planning.)
The Director of Institutional Research & Assessment will provide leadership and direction for the University’s IR&A needs, ensuring they align with and advance the University’s mission and strategic goals as well as respond to evolving needs. The Director collaborates, leads, and supports institutional research and effectiveness engagements across the University, working closely and collegially with other offices and divisions to maximize the efficient use of resources in furthering the mission and accomplishing the goals of the University.

Other minimum qualifications

• Five to seven years of demonstrated experience developing university-wide systems for informed decision-making, institutional data analysis, accountability, assessment, accreditation, strategic planning, and reporting in institutions of higher education. 
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in institutional research and assessment 
• Competency in research design, analysis, and modeling 
• Experience with and awareness of current trends in higher education academic assessment theory and practice 
• Proficiency with statistical software programs, predictive modeling, relational student information systems, and analytical research methods for problem-solving 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences in appropriate formats. 
• Demonstrated ability to manage, support, and motivate a professional staff to build an effective and collaborative working team. 
• Demonstrated ability to direct staff and collaborate effectively with others 
• Ability to focus and lead an organization to make strategically-driven decisions through the effective use of data and data analysis 
• Proven ability to work in a way that honors diverse cultures, ideas, perspectives and people 
• Creativity, flexibility, and adaptability to change 
• Customer service orientation and a continuous improvement philosophy

Salary Information

Duty/Responsibility

• Directs the university’s IR&A needs, ensuring they align with and advance the University’s mission and strategic goals as well as respond to evolving needs
• Serve as the primary point of contact to the President’s Cabinet for IR&A requests. Lead a talented team of three professional staff members and 2-3 graduate and undergraduate student employees. Plan, perform, and analyze studies and reports that support the University’s institutional decision making and identify key trends and resulting areas of concern and opportunity 
• Through the utilization of research findings, modeling, and benchmarking, contribute to the development of a comprehensive strategic enrollment management model and plan 
• Provide guidance for implementation of new and significant changes to existing IR&A systems and projects 
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key University groups and offices whose services have significant convergence with IR&A, including but not limited to the Offices of the President, the Provost, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Sponsored Research, Campus Planning, and Information Technology 
• Work with Information Technology on architecture and platform to support data management and analytics that best support the institutional research function
• Foster a self-service philosophy for routine reporting needs of unit-level managers through the development of standardized data retrieval tools and executive dashboards 
• Oversee reporting of official institutional data to federal agencies, professional organizations, and accrediting bodies; oversee response to requests from external constituencies and the University System (annual requests for academic and other metrics, student data, etc.) 
• Collaborate with University offices on strategic planning, including the tracking of institutional performance 
• Oversee the administration, collection, and maintenance of program reviews, in conjunction with the SVPAA and the deans, including data for accreditation purposes (such as NEASC, ABET, NCATEetc.) 
• Oversee processes which develop, collect, maintain, and analyze data on student learning, student success, and the student experience 
• Represent the University with on-campus, system, and external party inquiries for information 
• Ensure university presence and current information in national guidebooks and surveys 
• Provide oversight in the development and maintenance of collecting institutional data, including the Common Data Set 
• Participate in professional organizations and keep abreast of trends and issues pertaining to assessment and institutional research 
• Stay abreast with the latest developments in data analytics as it pertains to IR with the goal of making data collection, data analysis and dissemination of information efficient and current 
• Other duties as assigned
