With R, institutional researchers can clean, wrangle, analyze, and visualize their data all in one ecosystem, making it a particularly effective tool for institutional research. R is a free, powerful, open-source programming language, and can be difficult to learn without first understanding the fundamentals of how R works and the syntax rules for writing code. This webinar will introduce new users of R to those fundamentals. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: download and set up R and RStudio, identify the components of RStudio and how they work together, describe R objects and how they are written/used in code, expand R capacity with packages, recall syntax rules for writing functions and code, and structure scripts for improved readability. This webinar is designed for those new to coding in R or those who want a refresher on the fundamentals before embarking on their coding journey.

Participants in this session will be able to:

• identify the components of RStudio and how they work together;
• describe R objects and how they are written/used in code;
• recall syntax rules for writing functions and code.

Intended Audience: All levels. For this session, participants are expected to have downloaded R and RStudio but are not expected to have ever opened it.

Format:  Webinar - recorded sessions in which attendees view content and interact only via chat
